Nomination of the Head of Knowledge and Technology Transfer
The Research Council of the SNSF has elected Mirko Bischofberger as Head of Knowledge Transfer of NRP 84.
The SNSF has appointed Mirko Bischofberger Head of Knowledge Transfer of the National Research Programme "Plant Breeding Innovation" (NRP 84). Mirko is a seasoned science communicator with nearly 20 years of experience and a robust background in molecular biology. He has made significant contributions in various capacities, including his time as Head of Communication at EPFL, a strategic advisor to the President of the SNSF, and a policy fellow in the Swiss Parliament. His work at these institutions, along with his tenure as a science journalist at Neue Zürcher Zeitung, has honed his expertise in bridging the gap between scientific research and public policy. Today Mirko leads his own agency, Science Studios, and continues to advance innovative communication strategies that connect research with society, making his new position at NRP 84 a perfect fit for his skills and passion.
Within the framework of NRP 84, Mirko will promote the transfer of knowledge and the dialogue between research, politics and society, as well as the communication of scientific findings to a broader public.
Research in NRP 84 will begin between January and April 2025. The programme will examine ways in which NBTs might develop and bring new crop varieties to the market with traits that allow improved social, economic and environmental sustainability and bolster food security in the face of climate change.
